About the host organization

Y.E.S. is a non-governmental non-profit organization that aims to contribute to the development of the youths by inspiring them a sense of active European citizenship, solidarity, and tolerance. It promotes mobility within and beyond Europe, non-formal learning and intercultural dialogue, and encourages the employability and inclusion of all young people, regardless of their educational, social and cultural background. Our mission is to promote and bring added value to participative education and active citizenship while developing solid partnerships with institutions, organizations, and individuals that have an activity corresponding to our values and objectives.

About the project

With the alarming youth unemployment rate across the European Union, the European Commission has made the youth employment a priority. European Council President, Herman Van Rompuy, noted that ‘youth unemployment remains, and will remain, at the top of the European agenda’ at a conference on the topic in November 2013. “More than 4.2 million young people (aged 15-24 years) were unemployed in August in 2016 in the EU. High youth unemployment co-exists sometimes with increased difficulties in filling vacancies.” This points to the existence of labour market mismatches, due to inadequate skills, limited geographic mobility or inadequate wage conditions.

The so-called “lost generation” is represented by many young citizens struggling to develop necessary skills and experience – this results from the low level of key competences like learning to learn and sense of initiative and entrepreneurship which are replaced with the increased theoretical preparation to the detriment of the hands-on approach education needed both by the young people and the labour market.

The youth exchange “Initiate your career” aims to increase the employment opportunities for 36 young people from the 6 partner countries from CZ, HU, SK, BG, EL, RO (36 young participants, 12 of which are facing economic, geographic and social obstacles and 8 group leaders) by actively involving the participants in improving their personal and professional competences in order to match with the labor market requirements.

The objectives are:

-To increase the level of public speaking competences among the 36 young participants aged 18-24 (6 from each partner organization, two of which are facing economic, geographic and social obstacles).

-To sustain the development of key knowledge, abilities and attitudes with regards to the accession of the labor market.

-To create a framework for increasing the competences in regards personal branding.

Results and impact:

The participants will increase knowledge, competences and skills regarding entrepreneurship, by developing some key competences, such as learning to learn, interpersonal and intercultural competences, as well as cultural awareness and expression and others.

Profile of the participants

Each partner will select 6 young participants aged 18-24 motivated to develop competences which will help them get a future job (Slovakia and Romania will select 7 young people). Each partner will include two young participants that face fewer opportunities (economic, geographical and social obstacles) from rural and small urban areas and immigrants who wish to better integrate in their current community.

Each partner will provide one group leader who works in the organisation as a youth worker.
