Film it: Multimedia practices for cultural dialogue and inclusion



What a better way to fight for inclusion than through creation and creativity, especially video making?

Between 23 and 30th of September 2017, Young Europe Society was partner for Mittetulundusühing Mitra Association from Estonia in “Film it: Multimedia practices for cultural dialogue and inclusion”, a KA1-Training Course that took place in Taevaskoja, Estonia which aimed to promote the European values in accordance with Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, insuring free movement of persons.

30 youth workers from Estonia, Romania, Spain, Netherlands, Greece and Portugal had the opportunity to develop digital competences by creating a professional self-branding video and a competitive video-CV. They exchanged ideas and best practices on multimedia role in youth work.

Other objectives of the project were:

* understanding the role of young people in their local realities in the context of active participation and inclusion;

* exploring multimedia activities as a tool for intercultural dialogue and social inclusion and adapting different types of multimedia activities to different target groups, in particular young people;

* giving to youth workers the ability to develop marketable multimedia skills and build multimedia-based products;

* preparing youth workers as multipliers of new gained competences.

The multimedia approach in youth work was targeted through non-formal learning activities and methodology, learning by doing, educational and artistic workshops. By advancing multimedia and digital skills and multilingualism in youth work this project also tackled the issue of intercultural dialogue in Europe.

The main results of the project are the competences and experiences gained by participants – youth workers. Participants learned to use multimedia for a variety of purposes ranging from NGO youth work and arts to media campaigns. Impact on their skills ranges from technical to analytical and creative. Youth workers gained the ability to make use of different equipment and software to produce multimedia pieces for their professional needs. Now they are able to transfer their newly acquired knowledge to their organisations and to young people and empower their local communities.

For Young Europe Society the project represented the opportunity the enlarge the sphere of partnerships for new collaborations.
